Manly Festival of Surfing
5-8 November 2009
Presented by Global Surf Industries, with thanks to Manly Council
Surfing is not just a sport; it is a cultural way of life spanning the globe. Manly has its roots firmly planted in this culture⦠one which embraces art, fashion, music, literature, film and of course, the actual art of board-riding.
Imagine Manly locals and visitors alike immersing themselves in a festival that is so rich in history, that we could actually relive it through the eyes of those that have been there and discover the direction surfing is now taking.
Manly is one of the most beautiful and best known surf destinations in the world, and that is the reason this event could be held in no other location.
History
It was a different world back in 1964. That was the year that Manly Council and Ampol hosted the first ever 'World Surfing titles!'
Surf culture had taken a firm grip on Australian youth and local legend, Midget Farrelly won the event!
Since then, many a champion has surfed the iconic breaks, mixing with locals and taking advantage of the atmosphere of the world famous Manly Beach!
